Sam Barker and Andreas Baumecker, two of Berlin’s principal men around town, have collaborated on a new LP.
Barker is better known under his Voltek alias, producing skittering electronica for the likes of Automat and Acroplane, and also runs the city’s excellent Leisure System nights. Baumecker, meanwhile, is a key member of the Berghain fold. The pair have previously collaborated on 2010’s impressive Candyflip EP for Ostgut Ton, and last shared studio space on this year’s ‘A Murder Of Crows’ 12″.
As reported, the pair will issue their debut full-length on Ostgut Ton next month. As Death And Taxes note, sizeable clips of the Transsektoral LP are now available to stream. The Ostgut Ton bumpf promised that Transsektoral would rove across the “entire spectrum of electronic music”, and a quick listen suggests that we may be in for much more adventurous fare than might initially be expected from Berlin’s pre-eminent finishing school for sinewy techno musicians. Ambient figures (‘Sektor’), Border Community-style gauzy techno (‘Schlang Bang) and dreamy kosmische (‘Tranq’) all feature.
Ostgut Ton will release Transsektoral on September 10.
