Eglo’s latest signing(s) can be found sticking to the shadows.

Eglo have been deliberately cagey about the Strange U project, releasing approximately zero biographical details about their latest artist. Aside from a string of YouTube videos – all of which offer up heady, woozy hip-hop, yoked to vintage film footage – Strange U don’t even have an official release to their name. A little browser-based research, however, suggests that Strange U is an alias of UK hip-hop veteran Kashmere The Iguana Man, responsible for 2002’s well-regarded Raw Styles EP. Trawling those Youtube clips, it also looks like Tempo Clash’s Om Unit and producer Cross Bone T have also had a hand in the project.

Strange U’s silence is set to break with the Scarlet Jungle EP next month. ‘Scarlet Jungle’ is a scuzzy, whacked-out cut, combining Madlib-style clatter with heavily distorted vocals. The hazy clip is part video nasty, part Look Around You. Admirers of Gary War’s nightmarish Highspeed Drift’ video will find oodles to enjoy. [via Juno Plus]
