No I.D’s yacht-bothering collective are back.
The hip-hop producer’s ongoing rap/pop project serves as a point of assembly for a host of singers, rappers and instrumentalists. Members on rotation include Common, The Underdogs’ James Fauntleroy and South African chanteuse Makeba. Their last release, 2012’s Express OG collection, was an opulent collection of yuppiefied hip-hop, and ended up being one of our 50 favourite albums of the year.
The Flower Of Life is the fourth Cocaine 80s release to date, and it’s a noticeably breezier release, lighter on the glossy rap tropes and heavier on the surf guitar. Too cheery for some, for sure, but aficionados of the last release will no doubt be interested to see where the No I.D. and co have pushed their sound in the new year.
