The elusive soul man hits the studio with Pino Palladino.

Unsurprisingly, D’Angelo’s long-awaited follow-up to 2000’s Voodoo did not materialize last year, as collaborator Questlove promised. Making things worse, a series of shows featuring the elusive singer were cancelled due to a medical emergency.

With that in mind, these three brief clips of D’Angelo’s studio sessions (emphasis on brief) offer a glimmer of hope that we’ll actually see the release of his third studio album, which Questlove has described as “my generation’s version of Sly’s There’s a Riot Goin’ On.”

Shot at Henson Studios in Los Angeles, the three clips were shared by D’Angelo’s longtime producer Russell “The Dragon” Elevado, and feature veteran bassist Pino Palladino, who played on Voodoo. According to the clips, Palladino is recording parts for ‘Charade’ and ‘Sugah Daddy’, new songs that D’Angelo has played live since 2012. [via OkayPlayer]
