Earlier this week Johnathan Schecter, founder of legendary hip hop magazine The Source, pointed to a Tumblr that was collecting advertising from the magazine’s early days – from the best to the worst.

The gallery makes for some fascinating time travelling, in terms of graphics and fonts as well as music industry practices. There are adverts for ASCAP, local record stores (‘We still do vinyl!’ was already a thing in 1991), PR companies and of course a string of artist and release adverts, some of which time forgot while others became legends.
