Earth recruit Mark Lanegan for tenth album Primitive And Deadly; two reissues also on the way

Dylan Carlson’s super-heavy article test out “something approaching traditional pop structures”.

The mighty Earth will return this summer with their tenth album, Primitive And Deadly. This time round, core member Carlson and long-term drummer Adrienne Davies have “allowed themselves to be a rock band”, according to the press release, which reveals that the group’s heavyweight instrumentals have now been adorned with vocals from gravel-voiced bluesman Mark Lanegan and Rabia Shaheen Qazi of Rose Windows.

Other guests on the “melodically rich and enveloping” LP include Bill Herzog of Sunn O))), Brett Netson of Built To Spill and Caustic Resin, and Jodie Cox of Narrows. The album was recorded at Rancho de la Luna in Joshua Tree, California, and Avast in the band’s hometown of Seattle.

It’s out in September, but before that Southern Lord will be reissuing two vintage Earth records on vinyl – Hex; Or Printing In The Infernal Method and The Bees Made Honey In The Lion’s Skull – on June 24 in North America.

The band are touring across Japan, New Zealand, Australia and Europe this summer followed by another European tour in support of Primitive And Deadly – see dates below.
