Dear Tommy is the most rebellious record I’ve made”.

Though the planned release date for Chromatics‘ highly anticipated new album Dear Tommy came and went over half a year ago, frontman Johnny Jewel has been generously providing singles, demos, and instrumentals throughout the year.

For Adult Swim’s summer singles series the band have provided ‘Shadow’, a new song that will appear in an extended version on the upcoming LP. Even in this un-finalized version it’s an impressive track that glides along on minimal drum machines and glassy synth melodies. The single comes with a message from Jewel providing a short update on the new album, read that and stream ‘Shadow’ below.

Everyone has a shadow. There is no real difference between ten years ago and ten seconds ago. Your future determines your past. The flame of nostalgia is a tempting black hole to jump into, but I recognize it as a fantasy.
Romance is brave. So is simplicity. Love is a call to war. Why wouldn’t you want to respect music? Dear Tommy is the most rebellious record I’ve made.
