New Jersey’s Independent Record Pressing is true to its name.

Earlier this year we reported on how the popularity of vinyl could pose a threat to independent labels, but a new pressing plant in the US aims to reverse this.

As profiled in the New York Times, New Jersey plant Independent Record Pressing is building its business to serve small labels that have been shut out by the vinyl pressing demands of major labels. Most promising of all, the plant says it will be able to press 1.5 million records a year once it’s fully running.

Independent’s initial order list includes records by Vampire Weekend, Pavement, the XX and Mac DeMarco. “The dream is to build capacity for our label and provide a service for the indie labels that I love and respect so much,” said owner Dave Hansen, “and at the same time, make a few bucks too.”
