The project has been seven years in the making.

Occasional Animal Collective member Deakin is reportedly getting closer to releasing his long-promised debut solo album.

As Stereogum reports, Spacemen 3 member and Panda Bear collaborator Pete Kember has suggested in a post on Animal Collective forum Collected Animals that the album could be arriving soon:

“I dont think Deakins lp is ready yet …..
He has a really sick set of songs though ……some stunning stuff ….
Reminded me of Nirvana , soft cell , 13th floor elevators & skip spence ( one if Noah’s faves)

All recording is done & i think he has a bit of mixing to do , but i know he has it all on
the boil & ready to finally give out …..a book too i believe ….
Looks like a full year …”

Deakin’s solo album has been several years in the making. In 2009 he launched a Kickstarter to fund a package that would unite his solo music, book and and efforts to raise awareness about and end slavery in Mali, but was forced to apologise in 2012 after he failed to deliver.

Deakin is sitting out Animal Collective’s Painting With album, due on February 19.
