Drokk collaborators confirm reunion with Ex Machina director.

Geoff Barrow and Ben Salisbury will score writer-director Alex Garland’s new sci-fi thriller Annihilation.

Based on a novel by Jeff VanderMeer and starring Natalie Portman, Oscar Isaac, Gina Rodriguez, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Tessa Thompson and David Gyasi, the movie follows a scientific expedition into the remote Area X, which offers the special kind of horrors you’d expect from a place called Area X: mysterious contamination, disappearing colleagues, and a deadly animal all turn up to spoil the fun.

If it’s anything like as good as Garland’s brilliant A.I. thriller Ex Machina, also scored by Barrow and Salisbury, we’re in for a treat when it’s released in 2017. Read our interview with Barrow and Salisbury about Ex Machina.

The soundtrack duo have also recently scored Free Fire, the new action thriller from High Rise director Ben Wheatley which stars Brie Larson, Cillian Murphy and Armie Hammer. The project continues a partnership forged during the making of High Rise, when Barrow’s band Portishead contributed a cover of ABBA’s ‘S.O.S’ to the soundtrack of the J.G. Ballard adaptation.

They’ve also composed music for the next series of Charlie Brooker’s dystopian-fantasy-oh-wait-more-like-a-documentary-now TV series Black Mirror.

Barrow’s band BEAK> also recently provided the soundtrack for feral drama Couple In A Hole, as they told FACT last year.
