The streaming war takes a new turn.
Spotify revealed today it has reached 40 million paid subscribers, a 10 million increase over the last five months and a significant lead over its main competitor, Apple Music.
After 9To5Mac confirmed the milestone with the streaming company, the tech site compared the data with Apple Music’s own numbers. Apple announced this month it reached 17 million subscribers, but that’s only a four million increase over its last announcement in April meaning Spotify earned six million extra in the same amount of time.
The news only emphasizes Spotify’s presence at the top of the streaming industry as Tidal reported further financial losses earlier today. Both companies will have some fresh competition soon, though, since Amazon and Pandora are looking to get into the streaming game by taking a more budget-friendly approach.
