The rap god appears to have announced a new album coming on April 7 too.
Kendrick Lamar has dropped a surprise new single called ‘The Heart Part 4’ after teasing the release on Instagram yesterday. Listen to the track below.
The song follows ‘The Heart Part 3’, released in 2012 and used to tease the release date of second album good kid, m.A.A.d city. Just as that song set an October 22 release for that full-length, ‘The Heart Part 4’ ends with the message that “‘y’all got till April the 7th to get y’all shit together,” sparking speculation the hotly anticipated follow-up to 2015’s To Pimp A Butterfly.
The track sees Kendrick fire shots at Donald Trump: “Donald Trump is a chump, know how we feel, punk / Tell ’em that God comin’ / And Russia need a replay button, y’all up to something,” he raps. “Electorial votes look like memorial votes / But America’s truth ain’t ignorin’ the votes.”
It also appears to hit out at Drake, reworking his ‘Pound Cake’ lyrics: “Tables turn, lesson learned, my best look / You jumped sides on me, now you ’bout to meet Westbrook / Go celebrate with your team and let victory vouch you / Just know the next game played, I might slap the shit out you / Technical foul, I’m flagrant, I’m fouled / They throwin’ me out, you throwin’ the towel.”
Earlier this month, Lamar revealed that he had been working on a “very urgent” new album about “how wayward things have gone.”
“To Pimp a Butterfly was addressing the problem,” Lamar said in an interview with The New York Times style magazine T. “I’m in a space now where I’m not addressing the problem anymore. We’re in a time where we exclude one major component out of this whole thing called life: God. Nobody speaks on it because it’s almost in conflict with what’s going on in the world when you talk about politics and government and the system.”
