FACT mix 160 is the handiwork of irrepressible house hustler Justin Martin.

Justin first rose to prominence on the back of hi releases for Ben Watt’s Buzzin’ Fly, most notably ‘The Sad Piano’. With fellow San Fran-dweller Claude VonStroke as his mentor, he also found time to play a key role in the evolution of Dirtybird Records, contributing to its first four releases and honing a sound that combined a Euro-friendly sonic sophistication with a certain ghetto bounce. It’s the reason that Justin’s music has become a fixture in the boxes not just of techno DJs on the continent but also UK house DJs on the prowl for funky-compatible tracks.

As well as his solo work, Justin has collaborated with brother (and past FACT mixer) Christian as The Martin Brothers, turning out bumping, hip-hop-influenced cuts that appeal to a wide range of DJs and ‘floors. Most recently he’s contributed a disc-long mix to Dirtybird’s Five Years of Dirtybird compilation.

“I’m always trying to find music for my DJ sets that rattles sound systems,” says Justin, “But still has enough melody and interesting texture to expand your mind even if you’re sitting at home on a snowy or rainy day.”

His FACT mix is a typically focussed but unpredictable affair, and includes a special edit of Mike Monday’s Joy Orbison remix alongside productions from Claude VonStroke, Nicolas Jaar and Julio Bashmore.
