Joy Division is a new 208-page monograph by photographer Kevin Cummins, published by Rizzoli.

Much has been made of Anton Corbijn’s contribution towards sculpting Joy Division’s visual identity, but it is in fact Cummins who is responsible for the many of the most iconic shots of the band. Granted full access to Joy Division around the time they formed, he now describes their work together as them “learning to pose as a band while I was learning to shoot bands”. The results are a fascinating meld of the naturalistic and the stylised.

The book collects the Cummins’ many images of the band, as well as selected other ephemera including excerpts from Ian Curtis’s notebooks. It also features a foreword by novelist Jay McInerney and a conversation between Cummins and Bernard Sumner. Full details of the edition here.
