Another vital addition to the list of returning cast members.

Twin Peaks director and co-creator David Lynch appeared in episode 13 as a detective called Gordon Cole and is now set to reprise his role for the forthcoming Twin Peaks revival.

A short teaser trailer shows Cole eating a glazed donut in silence – which seems quite at odds with Lynch’s larger-than-life character – followed by a flash of that familiar sign post and text that simply reads: “The Return.” Watch the trailer below.

Lynch is one of many original cast members making their return to the show. Kyle MacLachlan (Agent Cooper), Shelly Johnson (Madchen Amick), Michael Horse (Deputy Hawk), David Duchovny (Denise/Dennis Bryson) and Doctor Jacoby (Russ Tamblyn), among others, are all part of the revival cast, as well as characters from the original series who had previously died – Ray Wise (Leland Palmer) and Walter Olkewicz (Jacques Renault).

In addition to these returning cast members, there are a number of random inclusions too – John Ennis, Trent Reznor, Sharon Van Etten, Michael Cera, Charlene Yi, Matthew Lillard, it goes on.

It was confirmed in August that filming has now finished on the revival series, which could air on Showtime as early as January, but will certainly come at the beginning of the year. Executives at the network have noted that the release will be “unconventional in the handling of it and how we put it out in the world,” confirming, for example, that the episodes will not arrive all at once.

A behind-the-scenes video from the set of Twin Peaks emerged in October, featuring contributions from core members Kyle Maclachlan and James Marshall, along with several newcomers including Robert Knepper and Jim Belushi.
