This Friday’s FACT session is packed with exclusives, and comes mixed by the more than able hands of RAMP Recordings
boss Tom Kerridge.

The label debuted mid-way through the last decade, releasing leftfield hip-hop from the likes of Count Bass D and Kankick. 2008 saw the label hit second gear in terms of productivity, and with it, a shift in focus to the UK’s underground dance music spectrum, with releases arriving from Zomby, FaltyDL, 2562 and Taz Buckfaster.

2009 was marked by a Zomby album, One Foot Ahead of the Other, alongside singles from Shortstuff, Hot City and Flying Lotus, while 2010 has seen Ramp enter its album stage proper, with P.U.D.G.E’s Idiot Box, Maxmillion Dunbar’s Cool Water and Shortstuff’s Summer of Shortstuff 10” project. Kerridge doesn’t just run Ramp of course, he also handles the few-more-shady BRAiNMATH label, which has spent the last few years peddling one-sided, limited vinyl releases from the likes of Untold, Airhead, James Blake and Bakongo, while his newest venture, PTN, sees him indulge his love of house music, with releases so far from Breach, Hackman, Doc Daneeka and Hypno.

As you might expect, more full-length offerings are pencilled in for 2011; read our interview with Kerridge over the page for an insight into what the label has on the horizon. And while you’re doing that, download his FACT mix, which features unreleased cuts from Brackles, DJ Dom, Hackman, T. Williams and more alongside classics from Two Lone Swordsmen and Pepe Braddock.

Hey, how’s it all going in Ramp world?

“Blummin’ wicked thanks!”

Tell us about the mix you’ve done for FACT.

“Just some tunes I threw together really – some forthcoming bits from my various labels, tunes I like at the moment, some older stuff, stuff that fit together. The Two Lone Swordsmen track is from one of the first pieces of vinyl I bought when I started DJing many many sleeps ago.”

You’re releasing Maxmillion Dunbar’s debut album this month, how’s
that working out for you?

“Yeah, amazing! I’ve been listening to that album non stop for about six months now, so it’s great to finally share it with the rest of the world. Without being biased, it is one of the best albums I’ve heard this year. I’d say that even if it wasn’t on RAMP.”

What else does the label have in store for the near future?

“RAMP wise – A Hypno 12″ and a Bad Autopsy 12” will keep us going for the rest of the year, with a possible surprise Christmas present for everybody in December. 2011 will bring an album from Computer Jay, more Shortstuff, more Hypno, more Desto, more NOCHEXXX, maybe a Jamie xx remix. Have a few exciting new signings under my belt too!

“PTN, we have Shortstuff & Brackles’ mate DJ Dom’s debut EP, ‘People’s Choice’ by T Williams, a 10″ from Hackman, Breach vs Deep Teknologi 10″, and working on full lengths from some of the above artists too. On BRAiNMATH, Airhead’s debut solo 12” drops in November (backed with a remix from Ostgut Ton boss Nick Høppner), then his Empty 9 Volts album comes out early 2011. After that, more Bakongo, maybe some DVA. Never know what will happen on BRAiNMATH!”

What else have you been particularly feeling lately?

I know everybody is going on about it, but that oOoOO thing on Tri Angle is top. Salem obviously. I heard a Juan Atkins remix of something that was really good. The new Model 500 thing is cool, not amazing, but I liked it. Nice to have them back. Isn’t Mad Mike in the band now? I will have to go and see them and take photos of his face. Do you think he has a Facebook page? I just looked – he does, no pics, and I doubt he runs it.

“Er, Actress remix of Kode 9 was cool, is that old now? The DJ Dom 12″ on Blunted Robots is wicked – in fact, anything by DJ Dom. ‘Bumpy Chuckles’ by Shorts is amazing, but I’m not sure it will see the light of day for a while. New A Made Up Sound track on Delsin made my jaw hit the floor – think it’s called ‘Rear Window’, not sure when it’s out. All the tracks Hypno has sent me for his album are nuts. Brackles sent me some tracks from his forthcoming Rinse album the other day, he is just getting better and better. Airhead album – amazing. Hype Williams make me want to touch myself, think they might be doing some stuff on RAMP soon. Is that enough?”
