FACT mix 195: DJ Spinn & DJ Rashad


We’ve been after this for ages, and it’s finally here.

DJ Spinn and DJ Rashad, figureheads of Chicago’s footwork scene, team up on this Friday’s FACT mix, and it is an absolute killer. If you’ve been reading FACT then you probably know about juke and footwork by now, the bastard son of ghetto/booty house that’s been bubbling Stateside for years, but recently has found itself informing worldwide club music more than ever; its influence made blatant in Addison Groove’s all-conquering ‘Footcrab’, but also on recent productions by Girl Unit and Ramadanman.

On Sunday October 30, we’re bringing DJ Spinn over for his London debut, flanked by fellow Chicago boy Chrissy Murderbot. Local support comes from Bok Bok, Hyetal and Ill Blu, and entry is free, so if you’re not there we don’t want to hear your excuses.

If you still need convincing then get on this mix: two of the kings of the scene going back for back over 25 tracks, flurries of 808s piercing through drawn-out synth melodies, all marching to the tune of those chopped up vocal samples. If you need more convincing, well, there’s Rashad’s recent debut for Planet Mu, a Mu release for Spinn due next year, the superb 4 The Ghetto EP just released on Ghettophiles, and extensive compilations out in the near future on Mu and Ghettophiles. They’re taking over, basically.

    I love juke, infact are crew was posted on beatports juke chart but i agree that a full set of it is a little much. I personally mix it in towards an end of a set replacing the sounds of dnb ect. the way girl unit and addison mix it is an example of how it should be used. clay
