Knockabout San Fran combo Deerhoof invite you to the big top for their latest video.

‘Mario’s Flaming Whiskers III’ is plucked from the band’s Breakup Song, the latest in a long line of fine collections of patchwork pop. The track’s a case in point, tripping from carnivalesque rave-lite a la Screamadelica into J-pop into (briefly) disco. For all the stylistic swerves, it’s an oddly funky cut, some way removed from the shrill, giddy fare of yore.

FACT have the first play of Richard Huntington Swanson’s official video for the track. It’s a silly, gently sinister piece, set in a mysterious travelling carnival. Hipster clowns, crystal balls and, er, cardboard dolphins all feature. It’s colourful and daft – and, correspondingly, fits the track like a sequinned glove.

‘Mario’s Flaming Whiskers III’ drops on December 3, via ATP Recordings. The single will be limited to 250 cassettes, and will also get a digital release. Intriguingly, the single features a Silver Apples remix, plus a live cover of The Velvet Underground’s ‘All Tomorrow’s Parties’.
