Earlier this month, one of Detroit music’s true greats was in town.

Andres – also known as DJ Dez, from his time as Slum Village’s DJ – has been releasing some of the funkiest house music around since the late ’90s, mostly on Moodymann’s Mahogani Music and KDJ labels. An old friend of both Theo Parrish and J Dilla’s, he was recently in London playing Eglo Recordings’ party at Fabric and toasting the start of his own record label, which, as we found out, is designed to re-issue his lost records, and reclaim them from the hands of “Ebay cats”.

The full transcript of FACT’s interview with Andres will be posted later this week – until then, enjoy this highlights package, with the great man reminiscing over Dilla, Jam Master Jay, his early days as a scratch DJ and more.
