Tip for budding bands: don’t try and stiff your engineer.

Dan Atkinson, an engineer at Long Beach’s Dan’s Lab Studios, recorded an unknown (and, let’s face it, awful-sounding) hardcore band who refused to pay him. Atkinson draws for the Loopmasters Nokia advert sample pack, and remixes them “EDM style” before uploading the results to YouTube. In truth, it’s more camp synth-pop than it is full-on EDM – change the vocals, and it could be a off-cut from Cold Cave’s Love Comes Close – but it’s still proved a viral hit, and attracted more attention than the band ever will. Score one for the engineers.
