Brighton's The Great Escape announces first 150 artists for 2015

Thurston Moore, Alabama Shakes, Boothroyd and Girl Band are among the avalanche of acts announced.

The Great Escape in Brighton is one of those city-wide, multi-venue festivals that arms you with a wristband and allows you to stumble from pub to club to pub again, discovering a bunch of your new favourite bands while get stuck into a three-day bender by the seaside.

The festival returns on May 14-16 to celebrate its tenth year, and organisers have just announced the first 150 acts on the bill. As well as the usual selection of up and coming artists, the festival has decided to bring back a few of the acts who performed memorable shows in the past, among them  soul-rock quartet Alabama Shakes, who return for a big show at Brighton Dome after playing to just a few hundred people in 2012.

Other acts playing Brighton’s venues, churches, pubs, streets and bandstands that weekend include promising Irish punk oddballs Girl Band, art-rock artisans Django Django and Tri Angle producer Boothroyd. You’ll also find blogger-turned-DJ Awesome Tapes From Africa, XL-signed French-Cuban twins Ibeyi, London MC Little Simz and the self-explanatory Thurston Moore Band.

Running alongside the official festival programme is The Great Escape’s industry convention, this year focusing on the ins and outs of music licensing, how to “fix” music marketing, the art of “selling out gracefully” and the role of record labels.

Check out the full line-up so far and grab early bird weekend passes for £49.50 from The Great Escape’s website. One and two-day tickets will go on sale later this year.
