The English rock veteran had been battling both AIDS and cancer.

Andy Fraser, bassist of London rock band Free, has died aged 62. Fraser passed away on Monday morning at his home in California. Fraser had been diagnosed with HIV and a a form of cancer called Kaposi’s Sarcoma in the 1980s.

An official statement regarding his death reads: “Andrew McLan Fraser passed away on Monday at his home in California. He leaves behind his daughters Hannah and Jasmine Fraser, and their mother Ri, his sister Gail, brothers Gavin and Alex, and many friends and associates in the industry. A survivor of both cancer and AIDS, Andy was a strong social activist and defender of individual human rights.”

Fraser was born in London in 1952 and co-founded Free at the age of 15. Fraser also performed with John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers and Sharks throughout his career. As a member of Free, Fraser produced and co-wrote 1970 hit single ‘All Right Now’, which reached No. 2 on the UK SIngles Chart and No. 4 on the US Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart. [via Gigwise]
