It’s the Chiclipse.
Chic have released their first single since 1992. A new single from the band is an event in its own right, but Nile Rodgers has made the release of ‘I’ll Be There’ coincide with today’s vernal equinox and solar eclipse. The single comes from the forthcoming It’s About Time…, due to be released in June.
“As with all Chic albums, this one’s based on a concept,” wrote Rodgers on his website last month. “Four years ago I was stricken with very aggressive cancer and I wasn’t sure how much time I had left. I decided the album’s concept would be about time and I’d feature as many people from the lifespan of Chic that I could on it.”
On first impressions, it sounds like classic disco-era Chic, with not a robot in sight. You can stream it on Spotify below, or buy it from iTunes. There’s also a video for the track playing on Rodgers’ Facebook page, which stars supermodel Karlie Kloss and features footage of Chic both old and new.
Chic are also playing shows at London’s Roundhouse today (Friday 20) and tomorrow (Saturday 21) – if you’re not lucky enough to be there, the show will be live streaming tonight at 9PM GMT on Yahoo.
