As a composer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist, Shub Roy has made contributions to Dirty Beaches’ albums and live shows, and worked with various other acts in the Montreal underground.

All this work has led to Roy’s new solo project, Night Musik. A reflection of time spent on the road, the video for ‘Between’ – from Night Musik’s debut album Transit –was directed by Alex Zhang Hungtai in Tokyo.

Roy knows Hungati well – he’s the frontman for Dirty Beaches. In the director’s words: “Shot over two autumn nights in various locations throughout Tokyo, the video depicts the story of a man consumed by his own shadow and the battle between control and constraint; the liberation and obliteration of the self are equated. The ephemeral sense of existence of being a stranger is depicted through an atmosphere of solitude and alienation in the hyperactive setting of urban Tokyo.”
