Chicago’s famous Smart Bar – stomping ground of recent FACT mixer The Black Madonna – has launched a label.
Northside ’82 is named after the venue’s location in the city and the year of its founding, and kicks off with a three-track EP from club resident Ike Release. The producer born Ike Velez is also 50% of Innerspace Halflife with his friend Hakim Murphy, and has previously released on labels like MOS Recordings, Finale Sessions and Skudge Recordings and his own outlet, Episodes.
Velez’s Dance Equations EP nods to the boisterous foundations of Chicago’s club scene with its analogue machine-stomp and spaced-out take on jacking house – check out the clips below and watch for the vinyl on July 3 and digital on August 14. [via RA]
