A shady soundtrack for a shady tale.

Eminem has signed up to write and produce music for a new TV drama inspired by Joe Carnahan’s 2002 crime thriller Narc, which followed an undercover narcotics officer investigating the murder of a young police officer.

Deadline reports that Eminem is in negotiations to join the project as an executive producer and music supervisor, and as part of that he is expected to write some original songs. Carnahan has written a pilot script for the series and is set to direct and executive produce the drama, in which the city of Detroit will have a “major presence”. The series has been in development by Paramount TV for about a year.

Em is just the latest rapper to get into the TV game, following in the footsteps of Ne-Yo and Timbaland’s work on the hip-hop drama Empire. Meanwhile, he’s been marking 15 years of his Shady Records imprint by releasing a huge 10-LP vinyl box set.
