The song is inspired by Tanaka’s main theme from Balloon Fight.
Video game composer Chip Tanaka has released a tribute to Saturo Iwata, the video game developer and president of Nintendo who died last week aged 55.
Tanaka is best known for composing the original scores to Metroid and Earthbound, both of which ranked in the top 25 on our list of the 100 Best Video Game Soundtracks Of All Time, and the new track is a remixed version of Tanaka’s main theme to Balloon Fight, one of his earliest composing credits.
The choice is especially poignant considering it was one of the first games they worked on together – Iwata was a young programmer at the time.
