The Toronto Mayor called the American superstar “a proud product of our music industry here”.
Kanye West will headline the closing ceremony of Toronto’s Pan Am Games on July 26 and the city’s Mayor John Tory had some kind and wonderfully confused comments to make about it.
In a speech the mayor admitted that he doesn’t listen to West much, but that he’s smart enough to recognize how many people do. He then went on to call West “a proud product of our music industry here, as are a number of others.”
Mayor Tory was quickly corrected, and admitted that he did think West was from the country and “you can’t know everything.” Watch the video and keep an eye on his aide in the background who seems to immediately realize the mistake as soon as he says it.
