Mumdance, Karen Gwyer, Container and Helm are among the excellent acts signed up to Recon Festival in Leeds and Bradford this October.
The DIY event, now in its third year, presents a “technology-focused line-up” for 2015, with those acts joined by Warp dup Plaid, San Francisco eccentric The Space Lady and local heroes Hookworms joining up with Richard Formby for a modular synth set.
Artist collective Black Dogs will present an exhibition about “utopian and dystopian visions of the tech-future”, while Japanese artist and inventor Ichi will co-host a one-off kids gig and workshop with Hookworms.
Also billed are Tomaga, Raquel Myers, Wanda Group, Neil Campbell, Shona Macnaughton, Moon Kyungwon & Jeon Joonho, Mika Taanila and more.
Festival organiser Andy Abbott says: “Whether they’re collaborating with innovators or repurposing tools for things they were never intended, artists push the boundaries of how we relate to technology – often revealing a humanistic and soulful side to the purely functional. I think with the line-up this year we’ll experience a diverse range of approaches from musicians, artists, filmmakers doing just that.”
His co-director Tom Hammond adds that the festival is “very much a labour of love to try and bring some great acts to Leeds and Bradford.” None of the organisers take any money and there are no sponsors.
The festival takes place throughout October at venues including Brudenell Social Club, Headrow House, Bradford Playhouse and University of Bradford. Check out the line-up below and grab tickets from the Recon Festival website.
