Plastician was making grime before it was even called grime. 

The Thornton Heath producer, real name Chris Reed, has been in the game since 2001, when he existed on the UKG scene as Darkstar (not the Hyperdub one). Since then, his beats have grown gradually more full of murk and menace, leading to a trademark sound that’s become one of the most revered in grime and dubstep, collaborating with Skepta and more.

He took us into his Croydon studio for a quick-fire guide to his beat-making process, putting together a dark, bass-heavy Fruity Loops odyssey that surprised even the man himself, it’s that good.
