Delicate electronics and heavy emotions.
When Chicago songwriter Matt Christensen isn’t working in his band Zelienople, he makes fragile solo work that brings to mind the emotional atmospherics of Talk Talk or Slowdive’s Pygmalion. His latest album, Honeymoons, is due next month via Miasmah Records and today he’s shared the stirring title track.
‘Honeymoons’ pairs Christensen’s sparse guitar work and yearning vocals with a softly pulsating drum machine to create something that sounds like Laughing Stock charged with ambient electronics. It’s a song that uses silence as effectively as every other instrument resulting in a piece of music as patient as it is moving.
