As a gun-for-hire, Amp Fiddler’s been around the block, playing keys for the great (Funkadelic, Moodymann, Prince), the good (Jamiroquai, Maxwell) and the ugly (Fishbone).

Despite his diverse CV, his records have tended to stick to swish funk and neo-soul. His latest, cobbled together on MASCHINE’s portable iMASCHINE app, sees him making one of his occasional dabbles in soulful Detroit house. Given its provenance, the track’s a little rough and ready; that said, if Star Slinger can get away with it, Amp Fiddler’s more than entitled to record on-the-go. ‘Conant Gardens 3’ sees him following the lead of associates KDJ and Andrés (indeed, the track takes its name from the Detroit housing project shouted across the Slum Village canon).
