Ali Wells’ Perc Trax label has been going from strength to strength lately.

Though it’s been around since 2004, it’s only in the past couple of years that the label has really got into its stride, developing a distinctive – and distinctively British – take on techno. EPs from seemingly disparate artists like Forward Strategy Group and Ekoplekz – as well as Perc’s own LP from last year, the excellent Wicker & Steel – place themselves at varying distances from the dancefloor, but are all unified under the common influence of British Industrial music.

No difference with the latest from Dead Sound & Videohead. ‘Murder Top’ is taken from the Murder EP (artwork pictured), their second for the label, and the name seems pretty spot on. It hits the floor running, layering up snarling bursts of noise over an ever-present, dread-inducing sub rumble. Possibly not one for bedtime listening, but undoubtedly an absolute killer (if you’ll excuse the pun) at 4am in a warehouse somewhere up north.
