It’s good to know that even the most successful of producers aren’t immune to software woes.

Dubstep’s poster boy has just posted an unfinished track on his Soundcloud. Apparently he was ‘recording all the automation live in one go and the bastard programme crashed and corrupted the file.’ A loss for Ollie Jones, but a gain for the rest of us.

It’s an unusually subdued number for Jones – probably down it it being half-complete – but, surprisingly, it really works. Starting off with a digi-dub skank familiar to fans of his earlier productions, it never quite launches into the flamboyant melodics you might expect. Instead, things stay stripped back, with Berlin-ish effects tugging gently at a simple kick-snare pattern – a reminder that dubstep can be most effective when it’s at its most meditative.
