Todd Edwards’ influence on UK music can’t be overstated.

The devoutly religious New Jersey garage producer, with his virtuosic vocal collages, mean swing and infectious basslines, was possibly the single biggest contributor to the birth of UK speed garage. These days, you can detect his legacy in more or less anything with chopped up vocals and a garage flex.

The Shall Go EP is his first sizable release in a couple of years, and in spite of him being on it for a couple of decades now, this is still brilliant stuff. The title trick is an absolute stormer, guaranteed to get your skin tingling in a peak-time dancefloor-meets-church service kind of way. Elsewhere, there’s stomping percussive numbers (‘This Generation’) as well as plenty of the melodious cutups we’ve come to expect (‘The Stranger’, ‘Hold the Faith’, ‘Echo of the Past’). It’s out on young LA label Body High on March 13, and you can stream the whole thing over at XLR8R now.
