Grimes gets most of the ink, but fellow Montreal resident d’Eon has been plotting his own wonderfully zany path this year.

The wannabe flower-arranger has already cooked up some of the year’s most eyebrow-raising releases. The blinding ‘Transparency Part III’ was a mid-March shock to the system. The high-concept Music For Keyboards series, meanwhile, has utterly charmed us – we’ll never look at Blink 182 in the same way again.

The oddball musician has now revealed the first track from his forthcoming full-length on Hippos In Tanks, LP. ‘Al-Qiyamah’ begins with a squall of massed synthesisers; so far, so Oneohtrix. d’Eon, however, is far too restless a producer to get stuck in a groove. Around the two-minute mark, d’Eon abruptly trades the cathedral for the disco, and starts to pull a range of angular electro-pop poses. Amidst all the spangles, ‘Al-Qiyamah’ boasts an ambient middle 8 and a crash-and-burn finale. Another day at the office for one of electronica’s strangest daydreamers.

LP is due on June 5. You can stream and download ‘Al-Qiyamah’ below.
