Seasoned procrastinators will likely have already enjoyed this video of flying robots playing the James Bond theme tune.

A new project involving Daniel Lopatin, aka Oneohtrix Point Never, uses similar principles to absolutely dazzling effect. As part of the Saatchi and Saatchi New Directors’ Showcase 2012 in Cannes, Oneohtrix Point Never was commissioned to produce a  soundtrack for a co-ordinated aerial display by a troupe of 16 ‘quadrotor’ robots. The project was a collaboration between robotics geeks Kmel Robotics, directors Marshmellow Laser Feast and designers Sam & Arthur.

Gorilla vs. Bear point towards footage of the spectacle. This is a must-watch, frankly: the quadrotors weave and twist, casting beams of light around the venue. OPN’s soundtrack is just about the cheesiest thing he’s done, but then again, there’s something oddly tear-inducing about watching these plucky little fellers bobbing and swooping with abandon. Call it the Short Circuit effect. The track, ‘Meet Your Creator’, is also available to enjoy below. Hats off to everyone involved.
