‘Goddess Eyes’ has an exalted place in the canon of West Coast composer Julia Holter, having appeared both on her debut Tragedy and on this year’s Ekstasis.

It seems Holter is keen to keep the song in the limelight for as long as possible: you can watch a new video for it below [via GorillavsBear].

The video sees Holter wandering through an abandoned dreamscape of monumental architecture, obscured by a halo of low-res TV static. The results are oddly sterile but disturbing, a bit like the deathbed scene in 2001: A Space Odyssey – a perfect accompaniment to the peculiarly deadpan, Baroque dread of the song’s lyrics.

Director Jose Wolff says of the video: “The first thing that came to mind was an image that gradually deteriorates with visual noise, echoing the sonic noise present in the song. We go from lightness to darkness, away from a structured, fabricated place and into raw territory”.
