Alicia Keys shares two versions of <em>Girl on Fire</em>'s title track

The R&B singer-songwriter debuts two remixes of female empowerment anthem ‘Girl on Fire.’

As she preps her new album for a November 27 release, Alicia Keys took to Twitter to share two parts of the ‘Girl on Fire’ suite. Girl on Fire features production from Jamie XX, among others.

Produced by Jeff Bhasker and Salaam Remi, the original version revolves around the drum loop from Billy Squier’s ‘Big Beat’ (Dizzee’s ‘Fix Up, Look Sharp’ did the same thing nearly a decade ago). Keys is at her melodramatic best, with a soaring chorus that is reminiscent of 80s power ballad ‘Take My Breath Away.’

Nicki Minaj contributes to a remix of this version of the song, name dropping a few girl power icons (Marilyn Monroe, Olympic gymnast Gabby Douglas) before getting meditative on her second verse. The Blue Light Version of ‘Girl On Fire’ discards the big beat for a moody piece of quiet storm R&B that feels too retro to truly captive. Stream both remixes below.
