With debut album good kid, m. A. A.d city set to arrive next month, a sterling new cut from chief Black Hippy Kendrick Lamar has hit the web.   

The instrumental sounds a lot like Aphex Twin’s ‘Alberto Balsalm’, which already has ‘Art Of Peer Pressure’ zooming into our good books. Lamar’s razor-thin voice nicks and slices its way over the instrumental; his phrasal tics –  bobbing and weaving behind the beat; surging forward only to unexpectedly stop short – make him sound like he could go anywhere.

Lamarpulls off the deceptively difficult trick of sounding earnest without coming over as po-faced (take notes, Lupe Fiasco) . Recalling OutKast at their eeriest, ‘Art Of Peer Pressure’ is just about, well, peerless. [via Prefix]
