snd’s Mark Fell has been a formidable operator in 2012, turning out three “neat house” releases as Sensate Focus, and subsequently remixing his own material twice over on the Sentielle Objectif Actualite collection.

FACT’s label of 2012 PAN have commissioned Fell to reimagine Heatsick’s excellent Déviation EP, and the results – a 34 minute long-form piece, pitched by the label as “somewhere between cover version, remix or deconstruction” – find all sorts of hidden resonances and buried presences in the source material. Where Heatsick’s disc offered flamboyant Casiotone house, Fell’s“heat-treated” version is an engrossing piece of forensic breakbeat music – skittish, prickly, and, at its best, fantastically pugnacious.

Bad news: only half of the composition is currently available to stream. Good news: that works out at just over 18 minutes of music. Click below to listen/marvel.
