Check the rain-splattered 'Apocalypse', from Wiley producer Kid D

South London’s Kid D is probably best known for his work with Wiley: he’s become one of the grime godfather’s – and FACT BRIT Award winner – go to producers of late.

Take a look at his Soundcloud, however, and it’s impressive without the need of a vocalist. ‘Apocalypse’, as recently featured on grime wrecking ball Slackk’s February mix, is a rain-trodden mix of wind samples, military hi-hats and the sort of synth licks that would get Joker or Swindle in the mood for battle any day. If ever a grime instrumental sounded like it was crawling through barbed wire, it’s this one. Saving Private Wiley? You bet. 2011’s ‘Ride Out’, meanwhile, is on a more subdued, lonely Western vibe. Check them both out below, or buy them here and here.
