Mount Kimbie offer the first taste of their forthcoming LP for Warp.
‘Made To Stray’ made an appearance on Ben UFO’s Rinse FM show last night, and offers a brawnier take on Crooks & Lovers’ featherweight electronica. For sure, those twinkling organ chords are still present and correct, but some haptic drum programming and heavily layered instrumentation add extra weight. In a break from previous material, the track also centres around a repeated vocal hook, giving ‘Made To Stray’ something of a Friendly Fires feel.
When we caught up with Mount Kimbie’s Dom Maker last year, he had the following to say about the new album:
“The new stuff is a lot more free than the songs we’ve done before, in terms of composition. It’s still entirely produced on a computer, but the drums and percussion are much more live in their feel, in rhythm and in flow. In terms of the actual sound…it’s quite a bit bigger sounding that what we’ve done before. I think it’s still quite delicate material, but it has a bigger sound compared to the last album, and I think that must be informed really greatly by what we’ve spent the last two years doing – playing live.
Mount Kimbie are about to set off on tour with Tri Angle’s Holy Other; head here for dates. The stint includes a support slot at The xx’s Night + Day mini-festival. [via NME]
