Preview L-Vis 1990's forthcoming Ballads EP

The Night Slugs co-boss promises the “first true artist statement since Neon Dreams – a set of bizarre, show-stopping pieces designed to spiritually open up the club.”

Ever since 2011’s uneven Neon Dreams, L-Vis 1990 has focused on peak-time club tracks, both on the inaugural Club Constructions 12″ and on his offering for Clone’s Jack for Daze sub-label.

Ballads continues the Night Slugs tradition of staking out new territory in the club landscape. ‘Ballad 4AD’ is the so-called “submarine tune,” named for its pneumatic, 20,000-leagues-under-the-sea bass tones. The previously-released ‘Not Mad’ is a giddy bit of hand-clapped funk, while ‘Signal’ sounds like a standout: droning and shifty with metallic synths and an EKG metronome.

Preview all three tracks below. Ballads is due out April 2 on Night Slugs, whose second volume of Night Slugs All-Stars was one of our top releases of the quarter.
