Go Greene.

‘Don’t Give Up’ is the first significant slice of Washed Out‘s forthcoming new full-length Paracosm, and breathes life into our theory that it would be a far more technicolor affair than its predecessor Within or Without. Ernest Greene’s characteristically hazy production style is still audible at a distance, but now comes with a far more obvious pop sheen, and feels like it owes just as much to French producer-pop heroes Phoenix as it does to any kind of chillwave scene or other.

Swooning yet never cloying, ‘Don’t Give Up’ is Greene’s most successful marriage of ideas for ages, and with the sun beating down it should stand as the perfect soundtrack for grilling and jumping into lakes, or if you’re in the UK, booking a trip somewhere that still understands the meaning of the word summer.

Paracosm is due out on August 12 via Weird World in the UK and August 13 via Sub Pop in the US. [via Pitchfork]
