Dev Hynes pulls out his slickest moves in South American sun.

The video for Blood Orange’s new single ‘Chamakay’ sees the London songwriter heading to Guyana to track down his family. The moment he meets his 92-year-old grandfather for the first time is caught on camera in the video, directed by Adam Bainbridge, aka alt-r’n’b act Kindness.

Hynes, who started out in combustible punk three-piece Test Icicles before going through a troubadour phase as Lightspeed Champion, has in recent years been honing his silky-smooth r’n’b sound inspired by producers like Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, who cranked out hits for Janet Jackson and Prince in the early ’90s.

The quiet storm vibe of ‘Chamakay’ – assisted by vocals from Chairlift’s Carolina Polachek – points to a similarly boudoir-orientated sound for his forthcoming album Cupid Deluxe, which features contributions from Clams Casino. Hynes has also been writing songs for the original Sugababes, penning Mutya Keisha Siobhan’s new single ‘Flatline’.

‘Chamakay’ is available from iTunes now. [via Pitchfork]
