Travelling hip-hop festival Rock The Bells has run aground.

Since its first date in San Bernardino, California in 2003, the festival’s tentacles have spread to four cities across the US. This year’s opening stints in Los Angeles and San Francisco suggested Rock The Bells was still in rude health, featuring the requisite scattering of big acts (Black Hippy, Earl Sweatshirt, A$AP Mob) and big gasps (the Eazy-E hologram, the ODB hologram). It appears, however, that not all has been well.

As The Washington Post report, the remaining Washington DC and New York dates of the festival have been pulled. The first stint was meant to take place in the city’s RFK Stadium on September 28-29, with the latter scheduled for Meadowlands Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Acts scheduled to play included Wu-Tang Clan, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Black Hippy, A$AP Mob, Juicy J, Earl Sweatshirt, Joey Bada$$, and many, many more.

HotNewHipHop are reporting that the cancellations were due to disappointing ticket sales. Chang Weisberg, founder of Rock The Bells organisers Guerrilla Union, has issued the following statement:

“First and foremost, it is with great sadness and disappointment that we must cancel the Washington, DC and New York City Rock the Bells dates due to lack of ticket sales. I, along with our staff, the artists, and all of the sponsors, media partners, local promoters, and radio stations involved are thankful for our supporters and the fans that planned on attending. It’s extremely unfortunate that we can’t complete the last half of the 10 Bells tour. We did everything in our power to save the show. Unfortunately, the financial loss would have been devastating. I am truly sorry we could not produce the show for all the fans who did buy their ticket in support of.”

Refunds will be given at the point of purchase; head to the Rock The Bells website for more information.
