Several people were injured at a hip-hop festival in California on Sunday (May 15) when a propane tank exploded in the food area, reports CBS Sacramento.

The 102.5 LIVE event was being held in Sacramento’s Discovery Park and had been organised by radio station KSFM.

Multiple festival-goers sustained burn injures from the fire with others getting injured in the ensuing stampede. In a separate incident, a 31-year-old man died after he was assaulted while queuing up for food.

Despite the incident, the festival carried on as planned, with headliner E-40 playing that night.

The festival issued the following statement on Facebook: “We are deeply saddened by the senseless tragedy that took place in line at a food stand yesterday. We want to extend our condolences to the family and friends of the victim during this difficult time. Thank you for your patience.”
