Party Store, the new album by Detroit garage-rock stalwarts The Dirtbombs, is a collection of covers of Detroit techno tracks.

It’s a pretty intriguing premise, the Mick Collins-fronted troupe taking on Motor City classics like Derrick May’s ‘Strings of Life’, Cybotron’s ‘Cosmic Cars’ and A Number Of Names’ ‘Sharevari’. Even more intriguing and appealingly self-reflexive is the news that Toyota’s Scion division, who have a pretty fine history of funding independent music projects through their Scion A/V initiative, have commissioned three Detroit techno/house producers to remix The Dirtbombs’ covers. Omar-S takes on ‘Sharevari’, Ectomorph reworks ‘Jaguar’ (originally by Rolando) and, best of the bunch, Kyle Hall offers up a version of ‘Bug In The Bassbin’, Carl Craig’s hi-tech jazz masterpiece produced as Innerzone Orchestra.

We’re pleased to be premiering Hall’s inspired ‘Bug’ remix; you can stream it and download via the Soundcloud player below. Beneath that you’ll find Scion A/V’s video interview with the young producer.
