Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin named Cultural Ambassadors to Russia

Take that, Andrew W.K..

In a tribute to irony, the US State Department will appoint Missouri indie-pop act Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin as Cultural Ambassadors to Russia. This comes just days after party expert Andrew W.K. was given a similar title before the State Department cancelled his trip to the Mideast.

Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin will perform as a headliner at the Old New Rock Festival in Ekaterinburg, Russia, becoming the first US-band to do so. The festival is sponsored by the Boris Yeltsin Foundation, and the U.S. Consulate there worked with the Foundation to sponsor the band’s visit.

“People used to ask us if Boris Yeltsin knew about us. This is the closest we’ve come to answering that,” said bandmember Philip Dickey. “And the ambassador part. I hope I can use that on my résumé — an ambassador for America for one day.” [via CoS]
